Jewelry Appraisals

In addition to the proper description of jewelry, silver or collectibles, other factors can often alert you to questionable or inadequate appraisals. Be aware that if any of the following information is missing, ft may be worth a second look before you validate the appraisal.

PROFESSIONAL FORM: The document itself should be well designed and specifically developed for jewelry appraisals.

CUSTOMER NAME & ADDRESS: Should be clearly identified at the top of the form.

TYPED: If an appraisal is not typed, the professionalism of the jeweler may be questioned. Review the facts carefully.

DATED: All appraisals should have a date that will indicate if it is current. Appraisals over three years old should be rewritten. Market changes in gold and diamonds can dramatically affect jewelry prices.

SIGNED: There should always be a signature of the individual doing the appraisal.

CREDENTIALS: Such as Certified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA), American Gem Society (AGS), Graduate Gemologist (GIA) indicate the jeweler has specialized training in jewelry and appraisal work.
